Fresh perfume oils for Lagos heat: Megamare, Silver Mountain Water, Imagination or L'Immensité?
Four fresh scents people in Lagos keep asking us about, how each one wears in the heat and the rain, and what they cost as our alcohol-free oil depictions.
When the afternoon heat sits on Lagos, heavy sweet scents can feel like a blanket. That is when people reach for something fresh: citrus, sea air, tea, clean woods. Four of these come up again and again in our messages, so here is an honest look at each one, as the alcohol-free oil depictions we blend and fill in Lagos.
A quick word on how oils behave here. There is no alcohol, so nothing flashes off in the first ten minutes. The scent sits close, warms with your skin and fades slowly. Two or three dabs on pulse points is enough for every bottle below.
Orto Parisi Megamare: the loudest sea breeze you will ever wear
Orto Parisi Megamare opens with bergamot and lemon, then goes straight to the sea: seaweed, calone and hedione, resting on musk, ambroxan and cedar. It is not a polite aquatic. Wearers rate it 10 out of 10 for longevity and 10 out of 10 for projection, which in practice means people notice it across a room and it is still there the next morning.
Wear it when you want to be remembered. Go easy indoors: one dab less than you think. It is on preorder at ₦68,100 for 30ml or ₦113,500 for 50ml.
Creed Silver Mountain Water: clean, cool and easy
If Megamare is a wave, Creed Silver Mountain Water is cold air off a mountain stream. Bergamot, galbanum, blackcurrant and orange at the top, ozonic notes and tea in the heart, musk and sandalwood underneath. It is the easiest of the four to wear to an office, a church service or a first meeting.
Wearers rate it 8 out of 10 for longevity, roughly 8 to 12 hours on skin, with moderate projection noticeable at arm's length. It is on the shelf now: ₦18,100 for 10ml and ₦47,400 for 30ml.
Fresh does not have to mean faint. In oil form these scents stay with you through the day instead of disappearing by lunchtime.
Louis Vuitton Imagination: citrus and black tea, quietly expensive
Louis Vuitton Imagination is the one people describe as smelling rich without shouting. Citron, Calabrian bergamot and Sicilian orange open it; black tea, ginger, cinnamon and neroli carry the heart; black tea, ambroxan, guaiac wood and olibanum finish it. It feels like a crisp shirt and a cup of tea at the same time.
Wearers rate it 9 out of 10 for longevity, roughly 12 to 24 hours, and 8 out of 10 for projection. On the shelf at ₦24,700 for 10ml and ₦68,100 for 30ml.
Louis Vuitton L'Immensité: grapefruit, ginger and a warm finish
Louis Vuitton L'Immensité is the freshest of the four in the first hour: grapefruit, bergamot and ginger, sparkling and a little spicy. Then ambroxan, amber and labdanum come through and give it a warm, confident base that carries into the evening.
Wearers rate it 9 out of 10 for longevity and 8 out of 10 for projection. On the shelf at ₦22,200 for 10ml and ₦60,400 for 30ml.
Which one should you choose?
For the office and everyday: Creed Silver Mountain Water. For something that feels polished and lasts all day: Louis Vuitton Imagination. For daytime with a warm finish into the evening: Louis Vuitton L'Immensité. For maximum presence: Orto Parisi Megamare.
If you like these, Ex Nihilo Blue Talisman is worth a look too: pear, bergamot, ginger and mandarin over musk and amber woods, fresh but softer and sweeter, on preorder from ₦55,200 for 30ml.
When the sun goes down
Fresh scents are for the day. For evenings and harmattan nights, two of our warmer preorders are the natural next step: Clive Christian Blonde Amber, rum, blond tobacco, dried fruit and tonka with real depth, and Orto Parisi Terroni, raspberry over smoky birch, benzoin and woods. Both are rated 9 or 10 out of 10 for longevity.
Not sure which one is you? Ask Folake on the site, or order 10ml of a shelf bottle first. Orders over the reward level ship with two free 1ml testers, which is the easiest way to try a second scent before you commit.
Every bottle here is our own alcohol-free oil depiction, blended and filled in Lagos. Brand and fragrance names are used only to describe the scent; we are not affiliated with the original houses.
