What ‘inspired by’ honestly means
Oils, concentrations and marketing language, explained without the sales pitch.
Every perfume oil business in Nigeria uses the phrase, and almost nobody explains it. Here is the plain version.
What you are buying
The fragrance houses that supply the industry sell compositions: the blended oil that gives a perfume its character. What they cannot sell is a brand name, a bottle, or a licence to claim you are that brand.
Nobody is selling you a designer bottle for eleven thousand naira. What you are buying is the composition, and that is a different promise.
Where oils differ from the original
An oil has no alcohol, so the opening is quieter and the dry-down lasts longer. Some notes translate almost exactly, particularly warm and woody ones. Bright citrus and airy florals are the hardest to match, because those molecules are the ones alcohol was carrying.
How to judge one honestly
Do not compare an oil to your memory of a boutique spray. Wear it for a day, notice whether people respond to it, and decide whether the composition is one you want on your skin. That is the only comparison that matters at this price.
